Good Evening!

After several weeks of public tours we are on the road again. As you can see from our position we are south bound, this time for Gloucester, Mass. where there is a schooner festival this weekend. Those of you who follow our travels will know that we have made this an annual pilgrimage of late. For me it is a tremendous way to honour the legacy of Bluenose, Capt Angus and his crew and all the men who went fishing and the wives and children who stayed at home. Life was difficult in those days no matter who you were.

We struck most sail at sunset when it went glassy smooth. Just now the province is lit by the last of a beautiful sunset. We are being overtaken by numerous yachts and fishing boats and there is a large vessel carrying newsprint from Liverpool to Venezuela just crossing our bow about three miles away.

As you know we have a couple of big breezes here in Nova Scotia lately. Named storms Bill and then Danny came for a visit on consecutive weekends. Bill left tremendous surf conditions. We could see the Ovens breaking from our wharf which is some four miles away. Danny had uncomfortable wind direction being SE, which blows right into Lunenburg harbour. It meant a few sleepless nights but no damage done. Bill had maximum winds of 50 knots and Danny 45 knots.

The weather is looking quite good for our crossing of the Gulf of Maine. We could use a bit more wind but we will use what we have to best advantage.

That's all for tonight,

Best regards,

Phil Watson
