Bath, ME

Good evening all,

We are nestled along the banks of the Kennebec river at the Bath Maritime Museum. I haven't been ashore to see the museum yet, hopefully tomorrow. It is very rural here and a wonderful change from the usual wooden or cement dock that we find ourselves moored to. The dock here is only 20 feet wide and much shorter than the ship, therefore thirty feet from our stern is a marsh! As the crew were handling mooring lines on the wharf a disgruntled beaver waddled away and disappeared into the rushes. I guess even outside of Canada a dime beats a nickel.

We called all hands at eight o'clock this morning and heaved up the anchor in our little spot just off Turnip Island on the Swampscott River. Even some eight miles from the coast the swell still rolled us gently all night. We motored down the Sheepscott and did some maneuvering practice while the crew scrubbed the ship from stem to stern. At 1030 we turned and headed up the Kennebec River towards Bath. It is a bit close in some areas but a beautiful trip some ten miles upriver to Bath. The narrowest bit we passed through had a navigable width of 150 yards.

As I write this I can hear the fireworks from the town center as Bath closes out it's Heritage Days celebration. I guess I'll go see the final bit.

Have a good night
